Part 1: Löwen in Mara : Zwei ausgewachsene Löwenbrüder relaxen mit ihrer grossen Familie im hohen Gras der Mara-Savanne in der heissen Sonne. Nach einiger Zeit entscheiden sie sich trotz der grossen Mittagshitze, im Schutz der grossen Ansammlung von Autos, welche sie als Deckung benutzen - zu jagen. Erfolglos? Gepard in Amboseli : Es ist ein warmer früher Morgen im Amboseli Nationalpark; in der weiten gelben Grassavanne der Amboseli-Ebenen verspeist in aller Ruhe aber trotzdem wachsam ein Gepard seine Beute, während um in herum Gazellen und Antilopen nervös die dramatische Szene in Kenntnis nehmen. Im Anschluss weiden Elefanten friedlich vor dem schneebedecktem Kilimandscharo.

Part 2: Nashörner + Löwen in Ol Pejeta : Breitmaulnashörner "zum streicheln" nahe. Eine grosse Löwenfamilie frühmorgens "im Gegenverkehr". Nashörner im Lake Nakuru NP : Breitmaulnashörner, Flamingos, Pelikane und andere Wasservögel im Lake Nakuru Nationalpark. Big Cats in der Masai Mara : Löwen, Leopard und Geparden. Eine erfolgreiche Geparden-Jagd auf ein Topi. Zum Abschluss eine chilly Zeit mit Löwen, Hyänen, Elefanten und Büffel.

Bei den Löwen im Nakuru NP, Massai Mara NR, und Amboseli NP

Diese Big Cats Safari im August beginnt im Lake Nakuru Nationalpark, wo ein Löwenrudel nach Beute Ausschau hält. In der Massai Mara begegnen wir einer Löwenmutter mit ihren zwei Jungen, die herumspielen, während in der Nähe zwei Büffelkälber ebenfalls vergnügt herumspringen, begleitet von Pumba. Später treffen wir auf einen faulen Löwenmann. Turbulend und unruhig wird es am Mara River, wo sich hunderte von Gnus und Zebras in den Fluss stürzen, um auf die andere Seite zu gelangen. So mancher verliert dort sein Leben durch Krokodile. Ein überraschende Sichtung sind danach die zwei verbliebenden Gepardenbrüder von der einst berühmten 5 Cheetah-Coalition Tano Bora. Im Amboseli Nationalpark finden wir eine müde Löwin im Gras ausruhend. Verschiedene Wasservögel wie Flamingos und Störche halten sich in den Seen auf. Am nächsten Tag beobachten wir eine achtköpfige Löwengruppe auf der Jagd. Natürlich kommen auf dieser Big Cats Safari auch die anderen Savannentiere nicht zu kurz: Elefanten, Giraffen, Nashörner, Zebras, Gnus, Paviane, Leierantilopen (Topis), Kuhantilopen, Hippos, Büffel, Birds, usw. Ein wunderbarer Sonnenuntergang in Amboseli bildet den Abschluss dieser August Safari in Kenia.

Scarface & Majestic Male Lions of Mara 2017

Scarface in his beauty and majesty. He ruled for a long time as the Invincible Lion King
 over a large Area in the Masai Mara and was many Times seriously wounded and injured through Fights with other Simbas,

some of whom he killed.

He was really a fearless Mighty Lion King.

He was 14 Years old when he died in 2021.

funny to watch how a little and brave Jackal teases a Lion Man and wakes up from his Nap. (Mara Triangle 2017)
Also funny to watch how another Lion Man nervously looking and searching for his suddenly disappeared Female, who just was "hidden" under a River Embankment, 
which he could not see from directly above. (Musiara Swamp 2017)

 zwei amüsante Geschichten mit Löwen in der Masai Mara:

1) "Wake Up!"
Schakale versuchen oft, dösende Löwen zu wecken, weil sie wissen, wenn diese dann auf Jagd gehen, bleibt für sie einige Happen übrig.
Deshalb sieht man da wo Löwen sind, auch oftmals Schakale herumschleichen.

2) "Where is my Woman?"
Ein Löwenpaar in der berühmten Musiara, welches zunächst relaxt vor dem Background des bekannten Govenor's Camp (BBC) liegt, beschliesst irgendwann auf eine in der Nähe liegende Wasserstelle zu gehen.
Dort angekommen, verschwindet nach einiger Zeit plötzlich die "Löwenfrau" aus den Augen ihres Geliebten,
weil sie direkt am Hang bzw. der Böschung des Flussbeetes unter ihm sich hinlegte, so dass er sie nicht mehr sehen konnte.
Dieser, als er ihr Verschwinden bemerkt, macht sie nervös, verwundert, angespannt und unruhig sofort auf die Suche, 
bis er sie dann schlussendlich entdeckte, und erst dann sichtbar wieder entspannt ist.
Danach gehen beide zusammen entspannt trinken, als sich aber das Weibchen als erste schon wieder entfernte,  beendet der Löwenmann sofort seine Wasseraufnahme und folgt schnell seinem Weibchen.
Fazit:
Dieses Verhalten zeigt, dass Löwenmänner in der Mating-Season ihre "eroberten" Weibchen keine Minute aus den Augen lassen, und sie gegen alle andere Löwenmänner verteidigt, wenn sein muss bis zum Kampf auf Leben und Tod, auch wenn es der eigene Bruder ist.
In diesem Fall waren zu dieser Zeit vier seiner Löwenbrüder ganz in der Nähe, was auch seine zusätzliche Nervosität und Wachsamkeit erklärt.

Leopard Cub (Mara 2020)

Masai Mara 2020
In the heat of the African Day, a Leopard Cub relaxing high on a Sausage-Tree, with her Mother nearby and her Trophy (Impala-Prey) on a Branch Fork.
Later, the Cub playing around and is stressed out by Bees, and in Danger from a Hyena.

Conclusion:
A Sausage Tree is a good and shady Place for Leopards, who use the many thick Branches and Forks of Branches as Roads and Paths and use it also as cool Resting Place and to hide and place their Prey.
But Danger is coming from above and beyond: This Tree is also a Place for Bees and Hyenas lurk on the Ground.

Like the Big Elephants, the strong Leopards are also very afraid of Bees, which can be really very dangerous.

Leopards  (Shaba 2010)

On our in 2010 very first Gamerdrive at Afternoon in the beautiful wild Shaba Reserve,
two big Male Leopards came across our Way, 
on the Mainroad from Sarova Shaba Lodge to the Dududaba Hills.
Wonderful very rare Pictures of two adult male Leopards together at same Place,
with Background the majestic "Sleeping Lion" (Mt.Bodich).
(sorry for the often shaky shots, because the Leopards were far away because we didn't want to get too close so as not to scare away the Leopards , and at that time I was filming with a free hand without a tripod and only with a small Camera). 
And, they have a rarity value, 
because it is very rare to see two such magnificent large adult Leopards 
together at same Time.
And even more so in the not so animal-rich, hard-to-reach dangerous Shaba

die sie zusammen mit ihrem Mann George Adamson im Meru Park ausgewildert, und verfilmt hat ("Born Free" / "Frei geboren"),

und danach die Gepardin "Pippa", ebenfalls im Meru Nationalpark

After the Mother has successful returned, the Children joyfully play foolish together with the quarry/Prey (Gerenuk-Kill) and do funny gymnastics on the Mother, while a "Big" Danger draws nearer and nearer and very close : Elephants!

Löwen (Mara 2024)

 Juni 2024 - Ein normaler Tag in der Massai Mara:
Löwen kommen auf ihrer morgendlichen Jagd einer Büffelherde in die Quere. Anspannung in einer scheinbar friedlichen und ruhigen Savanne. Unruhe bricht kurzfristig aus. Doch unbeirrt setzen die Löwen ihren Streifzug durchs hohe Gras fort, uns immer näher kommend, dann sehr nahe am Landcruiser den Weg kreuzend, verziehen sie sich schlussendlich in den Schatten der Büsche.
Strausse tanzen im hohen Gras, während ein Gepard gut verborgen im Schatten sich ausruht.
Mr.Topi steht wachsam auf einem Termitenhügel. 
Elefanten äsen friedlich und ruhig im hohen Gras und Buschwerk.
Weiter geht es zu König Simba, der mitten auf der Strasse Pumbaa erlegt hat, und sich von den zahlreichen Fahrzeugen nicht stören lässt, sondern in dessen Schatten Schutz vor der heissen Sonne sucht. Ein wenig später löscht er lange seinen Durst in einer mit Wasser gefüllten Reifenspur,
weil Schweinefleisch macht durstig.
Giraffen, Vögel, Impalas, Thommys, ein Schakal, ein Serval, ein Tembo und eine lonely Lionesse an einer Weggabelung runden den ersten Teil dieser Mara-Juni 2024-Safari ab (00:00-23:50).

Mai 2024 - Safaritage in der Mara Triangle: Wir setzen die Mara Safari 2024 in der Mara Triangle fort. Auf der Suche nach Cheetahs begegnen wir Topis, Thommis, Zebras, Twigas, Impalas, Hippos, Baboons, Büffel, Elefantenherden, Strausse, Löwen und altem Elefantenbullen. Juli 2024 - eine kurzer Gamedrive in der Regenzeit: Flusspferde, Wasservögel, ein schöner Sattelstorch und ein alter Elefantenbulle runden die Mara Safari 2024 ab (23:51-1:10:10).

begibt sich eine Gepardenmutter mit ihren 5 Jungen auf die Suche nach Nahrung

Nimmersattstörche, Madenhacker, Flamingos, Reiher, Würger (Shrikes), Strausse, Finken, Eulen, Störche, Adler, Kraniche, Flamingos, Pelikane, Riesenhornraben, Kaptäubchen, Pfeifervögel, Kaptäubchen, Mohrenklaffschnabelstörche, Weissstörche, Singvögel, etc.

Unsere Safari beginnt im vogelreichen Lake Nakuru National Park. Hier setzen wir den Fokus vor allem auf die Wasservögel.

Bekannt ist aber der Park auch für seine Nashörner. Löwen sind auch nicht selten.

Hier leben die Rothschildgiraffen, die sonst in keinem anderen Nationalpark zu finden sind, ausser in privaten Schutzgebieten.

In der Masai Mara sichten wir viele Vögel. Zurzeit segeln hunderte von Schwalben über die goldgelben Grassavannen.

Auf Big Cats treffen wir häufig: auf den schlanken Gepard genauso wie auf Simba und sein Rudel.

Einer der Geparde beobachten wir auf der Jagd.

Einige der Löwen kommen aus Neugier und um Schatten zu suchen greifbar nahe ans Auto.

Zwei Löwenbrüder machen sich an einem Hippo-Kadaver zu schaffen, und ein anderer King verteidigt sein Rudel gegen ein junges Männchen, der mit einem seiner Weibchen näherte. Ein No-Go.

Elefanten, Topis, Zebras, Masaigiraffen, Elandantilopen, Thomsongazellen, Schakale, Schildkröten, usw. sind in der ganzen Mara zu sehen.

Wir beobachten von einem Aussichtspunkt eine Herde Giraffen, die den Fluss überqueren. Hier fühlen sich die Flusspferde zuhause.

Im Amboseli National Park sind diesmal vor allem die Elefanten im Vordergrund. 

Im Hintergrund stets der schneebedeckte Kilimandscharo, Afrikas höchster Berg.

Zum Abschluss besuchen wir den Tsavo West National Park.
